This morning activists from Hereford Solidarity League joined over one hundred others in a Communication Workers Union protest  in Gloucester.

Over one hundred people congregated beneath the glorious sunshine on Gloucester Park, to start the protest against the privatisation of Royal Mail and the cuts agenda of the Conservative/Liberal Democrat government.

A band lead the protesters off on a march through the town, which ended up at the Shire Hall just before 12. Here speeches were heard from members of the CWU and Fire Brigades Union, amongst others.

Speakers slammed the planned cuts to public services and the government’s treatment of the Royal Mail, saying that if it came to it, they would not shy away from further protest and strike action. Solidarity was shown to workers in other threatened services, and to those protesting outside the Lib Dem conference in Sheffield this weekend. There was also a call for everybody to attend the planned mass demonstrations in London on March 26th.
